summer Payton

sea glass portrait

Not blue

under the surface, freely submerged fingertips

grip silent waves

roaring, breathing salt and sea.

Welcome the deep

not even she can swim, not even

she can fill the shark’s eyes

jade cracks. She exfoliates

soft sensitive skin with glass shards

to patch land scars.

Like the lullaby of a siren song

she sips a dangerous cocktail

singing

   as she sinks

      to the

           deep
