Libby East

How You Left me to rot in viridian

Surrounded by the green room,

Enclosed by the dull, brick walls.

For the very first time, Here,

You’ll meet him; Quirky and Odd,

Free of flaws and scars.

He will take your hand, binded by the facade of a bond

And blinded, he’ll steal your first kiss.

He’ll flatter you into submission, yes. He adored you

When you were ignorant and young.

He’ll keep you around, and then he won’t

And for a moment, you can’t breathe.

Your heart will be lit ablaze, his words branding your skin while your lungs fill with smoke.

Under the light of the moon, you’ll wonder what you did wrong.

You’ll debate and argue, your mind screaming, blocking out all thoughts.

You lose yourself, as your heart cowers with

no rebuttal but;

He never loved you.

His tainted sins painted your skin.

Then, the wandering artist left.

He never planned to stay

And yet you wonder why.

You wonder for years

Til’ your wonders turn to words

A lack of closure, your only inspiration

You write, and then you despise your creation

It’s all the same formula, boring.

The same story, it grows stale

You grow stale

Until you rot, from the inside out.

And once again, you’re surrounded by green.

Only this time;

You’re alone.
